Website Design for Australian Tradies: What Actually Gets You Calls

A tradie website gets calls when it shows your phone number and a quote button on every screen, makes it obvious what you do and which suburbs you service, and backs that up with real reviews and photos of your own work. Pair a fast, mobile-first site with well-run Google Ads or local SEO, and track every call and form so you know what's working.

Website Design for Australian Tradies: What Actually Gets You Calls

What do customers want from a tradie website?

Most people land on a tradie website from their phone, often with a problem they want solved today. In the first few seconds they are checking four things: do you do this job, do you service my suburb, can I trust you, and how do I get hold of you. A website that answers those questions quickly gets calls. One that makes people hunt for them sends the job to the next result.

We see this pattern across the electricians, plumbers, roofers and fitout businesses we work with at Leed Agency in Cronulla. Design matters, but clarity and speed matter more.

What should every tradie website include?

  • Tap-to-call phone number – Why it gets calls: Most enquiries happen on mobile; Common mistake: Number only in the footer, or shown as an image that can't be tapped
  • Quote button on every page – Why it gets calls: Gives planned-job customers an easy next step; Common mistake: Contact page buried in the menu
  • A page for each service – Why it gets calls: Matches what people actually search for; Common mistake: One page listing every service
  • Service areas by suburb – Why it gets calls: Confirms you cover their area; Common mistake: "Servicing all of Sydney" with no detail
  • Real reviews – Why it gets calls: Builds trust quickly; Common mistake: No reviews, or unattributed testimonials
  • Photos of your own work – Why it gets calls: Shows quality and that you are real; Common mistake: Stock photos of smiling models
  • Licence and insurance details – Why it gets calls: Required in many trades and reassures customers; Common mistake: Hard to find or missing
  • Fast mobile loading – Why it gets calls: Impatient visitors leave slow sites; Common mistake: Large uncompressed photos and video
  • Short quote form – Why it gets calls: More people finish a short form; Common mistake: A dozen fields before they can hit send

Should each trade service have its own page?

Yes. Someone searching "switchboard upgrade Sutherland Shire" wants a page about switchboard upgrades, not a homepage that lists twenty services. Separate service pages help Google match you to specific searches, and they give Google Ads campaigns a relevant page to send each ad to.

Braytech Electrical is a good example of the approach. Its website is lead-focused, built for residential electrical work across the Sutherland Shire and St George, and it runs alongside Google Ads so paid clicks land on pages designed to turn into calls.

How do you show the areas you service?

Name the suburbs and regions. A clear service area section with your main suburbs listed tells customers and search engines exactly where you work. If you cover more than one region, say so plainly. Vanworks, which fits out trade vans, serves both Sydney and Wollongong, and its site is built around quote requests from tradies in both areas.

Is a phone call or a quote form better?

It depends on the job, so offer both. Urgent work like a blocked drain or a power outage usually means a phone call, so the number needs to be one tap away. For a local plumber like Baker Plumbing, the call button is the most important element on the page. Planned, higher-value work suits a quote form, because the customer wants to describe the job properly. Pinnacle Attics, which does attic conversions, and Vanworks both rely on quote requests for exactly this reason.

Keep the form short: name, phone, suburb, job type and an optional message or photo upload. You can ask for the rest when you call back.

Does a tradie need Google Ads as well as a website?

Not always, but it is often the fastest way to get the phone ringing while your site builds up in organic search. The two work best together: the ads bring the right people, and the website turns them into calls.

Dektek Roofing is the clearest example from our own work. We launched a lead-focused roofing website alongside Google Ads, and the ads brought in jobs from the first month.

"He exceeded all expectations, he created a great website and his google ads got me great jobs in our first month."

Koby Knapper, Cronulla NSW

Google Ads budgets don't have to be large. We manage accounts from $15 a day to $15,000 a week, with no lock-in contracts. In a different local service industry, a dog daycare account we manage generated 56 leads in one month from $791 in ad spend. Results vary by trade, area and competition, but the principle holds: a good site makes every click worth more.

How much does a tradie website cost in Australia?

In our experience, a professional website for an Australian trade business typically costs around $2,500 to $7,000 for a template-based build and $8,000 or more for a fully custom site, depending on the number of services, locations and features. Leed Agency quotes every project after a free consultation, with a choice of 100+ premium templates or a fully custom build.

How do you know if your website is working?

Track it. Every phone call from the site, every form submission and every Google Ads lead should be recorded, so you can see which pages and campaigns bring in work. Check these monthly:

  • Number of calls and forms from the website.
  • Which services and suburbs those enquiries are for.
  • Cost per lead from Google Ads, if you run them.
  • How many enquiries turn into booked jobs.

If enquiries are low, the cause is usually one of three things: not enough of the right traffic, a site that doesn't make the next step obvious, or slow follow-up on the leads you do get.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a good tradie website?

A good tradie website shows a tap-to-call number and a quote button on every page, has a page for each service, lists the suburbs you cover, and backs it up with real reviews and photos of your own work.

Do tradies need a website if they have a Google Business Profile?

A Google Business Profile helps you appear in local results, but a website gives you room to explain each service, show your work and capture quote requests. The two work best together.

How much should a tradie spend on Google Ads?

It depends on your trade, area and competition. Leed Agency manages accounts from $15 a day with no lock-in contracts, and the sensible starting point is a budget you can sustain while tracking cost per lead.

Should a tradie website show prices?

Showing a call-out fee or typical price range can filter out poor-fit enquiries, but many trades quote each job. At minimum, explain how quoting works and how quickly you respond.

Can a new tradie website bring in work in the first month?

It can when Google Ads runs alongside it. Dektek Roofing's lead-focused site launched with Google Ads that brought in jobs from the first month, while organic search usually takes longer.
